FBT Hosts Careers Workshop on Accounting and Finance

As part of FBT’s commitment to giving students opportunities for success within their careers, last week the school hosted a Careers Workshop, “Careers in Accounting and Finance”. The workshop was aimed to inform and inspire CIMA and Postgraduate students on the types of careers available to them.

Students benefitted from being able to put forward questions to Gemma Shooter, the Student Recruitment Manager for CIMA, one of the world’s most relevant professional bodies for gaining entry into the accountancy sector. Students also had the chance to subscribe to CIMA's recruitment database, presenting a major opportunity to gain employment or an internship in some of the world’s most respected companies.

Students put their skills to the ultimate test by taking part in a CIMA Business Game.

Students were expected to test their skills too, such as problem-solving, as they were given a group exercise to put forward ways in which a hypothetical clothing company could reduce its costs. This exercise, known as a CIMA Business Game, will require the groups to present their ideas at the next workshop in order to compete for a winner’s certificate from CIMA. Such participation is a great opportunity for our students to work under the supervision of an experienced and respected CIMA professional for inclusion on their CVs.

Alex Carroll, Career Services Manager at FBT, commented on the workshop: “This workshop was a great opportunity for our students in Birmingham to ask questions and receive immediate feedback from an industry professional. It can be quite a daunting time as students approach the end of their studies and prepare to make the transition into professional employment, so these types of career workshops are essential and give students the inspiration they need to pursue their career goals.”
